Corpus Based Learning of Verb-Preposition English Collocation

Abstract


The present study investigates the use of corpus based learning of verb-preposition English collocation. The study was conducted in two writing classrooms of private university in Jakarta. During the study, the first group was taught by using Leipzig corpora collection, whereas the control group was taught by teachers’ explanation and exercises. The instruments used for the data collection were pre-test and post-test. Through running a t test and descriptive statistics, the results revealed that the corpus based learning has more advantage on improving students’ competence of verb-preposition English collocation than the teacher’s explanation and exercises. This study supports the positive role of corpus in pedagogical implications.
