DEVELOPING ENGLISH LEARNING MATERIALS FOR DIGITAL NATIVES USING AN ANDROID PACKAGE KIT (APK) SMARTPHONE-BASED APPLICATION

Abstract


The research was aimed at developing English materials based on an Android Package Kit (APK) smartphone application. A research and development design by Lee  and  Owens (2004) comprising need analysis, design and development was utilized in the process. The study was conducted at first semester of an English education department in North Bali, Indonesia. The data were collected through an interview, an observation, recordings, and an expert judgment process. A mixed quantitative and qualitative data analyses were conducted in the research. The result of this study showed that the first-year students of English Language Education students need an innovative English learning materials in the digital era and from the result of the expert judgment based on the criteria of good e-learning material, the developed material was categorized into good material. Students, teachers, and policy makers should consider more of needs of digital native students for a better teaching and learning quality in the context of English learning.
