Revealing Students’ Engagement during Online Learning in Higher Education through Narrative Frame

Abstract


For the past two years, learning process has been conducted online all over Indonesia due toCorona Virus outbreak in 2019. This changes the behavior and mindset of teachers and learnersin their teaching and learning processes. Students are demotivated and their engagementdecreases. This study aims at revealing students’ engagement during online learning. Narrativeframe is used as an approach in the study in which narrative task is given and observation isconducted during learning process. Data collected are then analyzed descriptively. The resultsshow that students’ engagement decreases that are caused by some reasons. The study alsoreveals that teacher can promote students’ engagement by trying out some teaching techniquesthat are suitable for the classroom needs.
